Well! The British Government have done what they've been nagged and nagged to do by the press and large parts of the public. They've announced their plans for getting the UK out of the current lockdown. Hmmmm! Clever Bird gets it - kind of. They have to do something at some point, or there will literally not be an economy left. Whenever the lockdown was to be lifted, unless it was after Covid-19 had been wiped off the face of the earth (which sounds to be impossible), it would be inevitable that the number of cases would once again increase. The logic seems to be that at some point the failing economy becomes as, if not, more important than the death rate from this ghastly virus. Suddenly, seemingly overnight, many of the people who cannot work from home should go back to work; people can go out to exercise all day if they wish to; they can even drive to the beach, park, forests or anywhere else they fancy to do so; they can go and have a picnic or go for a swim in the river (although - when was that ever safe?); they can even meet one person outdoors, but just the one (even if that one lives with five others), as long as they remain 2 meters apart; presumably they can meet one different person each time they go out for as many times a day as they wish to go out - but only in England - the rules for the rest of the British Isles remain pretty much unchanged. Oh - but not until Wednesday - which must be some kind of magic day, Clever Bird supposes.
Well! Pepper Pooch has been missing the beach a lot; as has Hormonal Hannah. And Baggy has really missed driving Billy Bob Jalopy campervan there every day. Indeed, poor Billy Bob has been sitting on the drive for six weeks. Baggy has run his engine a few times, trying to follow the advice to run it for twenty-minutes at least once a week; at least she was until Calum pointed out that he has an air-cooled engine, so running the engine, whilst not providing any moving air to cool him down is probably not the best plan. So Baggy would love to take Billy Bob for a nice long drive. And the weather has been so wonderful, more like summer than spring, that it would be great to sunbathe on the beach and maybe even go for a swim in the sea.
Well! Will Baggy be doing any of these things? What do you reckon Baggees? No, no, and Creative Clara would just like to emphasise this once more NO she will not! Clever Bird, Freda Fretter and Hormonal Hannah are of one mind: "Stay Home - Stay Safe."
At least for another two to three weeks, when people may or may not have been out-and-about, "Staying alert", Baggy, Calum and Pepper Pooch will be doing as they have been doing: one lot of exercise a day, in the form of a walk with the Pooch, from the house; a trip to the shops for food once every ten days or so and nothing else! The rest of the time, the three of them and Bracket kat will continue to potter about the house and garden, doing nothing, or getting busy with things, depending on how the mood takes them! Well, that's what Baggy is praying for anyway - there is a possibility that number one furry might return to work before then, but Hormonal Hannah hopes not. After this two or three weeks, Clever Bird will reassess the situation, praying that the virus has continued to reduce in numbers and will make a further decision - probably to stay at home!
Yesterday, Cal and Furry Mama decided that Pepper Pooch could have his cone off for the first time in three weeks. His leg is healing amazingly, and his ear seems to no longer be infected. They discovered yet another lovely new walk, and without his cone on, were able to let him off lead for a bit of a zoomies-session! The walk took them through the graveyard where Baggy's father and stepmother are buried, so Baggy popped in to check on the grave. Then she decided to try and find her grandparents' grave. She knew where it was, and has been saying for three years that she would sort it out - but neither Baggy nor Calum could find it for about ten minutes, it was so overgrown.
They decided to head back later with some tools and clean it up a little. It's less than a mile from the house on the way to the butcher's, and Billy Bob really needed a run out!
Whilst Pepper slept in Billy Bob, Calum and Gloria Gardener worked their socks off in the totally empty graveyard, as the wind blew a gale and the rain drizzled down on them.
But Baggy decided that her dad, and Syd (as she always called her grandad) and grandma, would have approved of their efforts. In September, it will be fifty years since Syd died, and yet Baggy has way more memories of him when she was a child, than of her own mother.
It's probably the first time that the graves have been touched in ten years. There's a little more to do, but it's a good start.
It's a pretty large graveyard for a small market town. Usually when one visits it, there will be one, or maybe two newly dug graves. Yesterday, there were ten.
Baggy is carrying on with her lockdown...
Baggy's current state!

Note to readers: For the avoidance of any doubt, every character in this blog is Baggy! No Baggy was harmed in its writing, although some of them get pretty confused!
