The moment that number one furry got home on Friday evening, he, Baggy and Pepper, headed straight back out again to go and view a new (old) car for Calum. He bought it and drove it home. Dodgy Truck is now up for sale (if any of you Baggees would like him 🚘). Calum will miss him, but he's been fun for the last nine years. So yesterday they had to take Dodgy to the other end of Suffolk to the garage that maintains him, as they are putting him on their forecourt. As it's a bit of a journey, Furry Mama asked whether they could stop at the Orwell Bridge to take Pepper for a walk. (They used to take Minty Mutt there and he loved it). The tide was completely out in the estuary, so the pooch had a great time in the stinky, gloopy mud.
They dropped Dodgy off at the garage,
Then started on the ninety-minute journey home again. The Domestic Goddess hadn't the energy to cook (well that's her excuse anyway), so fish and chips were purchased for supper.
Calum wanted Baggy to drive the new car today to see what she thought of it, so Furry Mama suggested that they went to Dunwich Heath. The pooch is definitely limping, so she wanted to go somewhere where he'd be relatively "enclosed". She wanted to see what he would be like off the lead without a ball to chase! His skid turns to catch the ball, are a real strain on his little legs. The car is a Volvo diesel estate, and it's very low, unlike Billy Bob Jalopy campervan! Baggy had her old Ariat riding boots on, as they're comfy, warm and waterproof, but they're also rather wide on the foot! It took Clever Bird a while to manage to get the accelerator down, without hitting the trim on the side. And to remember that the gear stick is on the left not the right. And to not totally over steer with the power steering. But having figured that little lot out, it was fun to drive.
Pepper Pooch was harnessed in the boot, so he was safe and comfy. And it's a very smooth drive, with comfy leather seats, so Baggy was happy. They got to The Heath, only for Clever Bird to realise that she'd totally forgotten to bring her National Trust sticker, so they had to pay for parking. But it's worth it - such a beautiful place. It took a while for the pooch to accept that no one was going to be throwing a ball for him, but he was as good as gold; still running off ahead and then waiting for Furry Mama and Calum. The further they went, the further the pooch ran off, every now and again, running into the muddy water on the marsh land, so Calum whistled him. He came running back. Furry Mama gave him treats for being a good boy. After a while, he even came back to Baggy's pathetic whistle. Freda Fretter was delighted. After walking around the heathland, they decided to take him down to the beach to try and get the smell of stagnant water off him. And so that Creative Clara could find some more special stones.
It's very easy to forget that it's still only January as the weather has been so lovely. But it is! The wind had a real bite in it, so they decided to head up to the café and have a coffee (yes okay and three cheese scones). Why three you ask Baggees? Well because there were three of them of course - the pooch loves a cheese scone as much as his Mum and Dad do!
He's a weird dog though!
Once they'd all warmed up a bit, they headed back to the beach. Pepper had a ball - without his ball 😜.
While Clara collected stones the pooch ran about and paddled. He even had a chase about with a very large lurcher-type dog, although Freda Fretter was slightly concerned that he was going to hurt the pooch, as he kept nipping at the back of his neck! Hormonal Hannah therefore forgot to video it. Of course it was fine. Apparently the other dog, called Ghost, is normally terrified of strange dogs! 😮
Food shopping done on the way home. Pizza just consumed (yes, Hannah needed it), everyone is ready for a relaxed evening. The really good news for Furry Mama, is that that is literally everyone! Hinge has been confident enough to come downstairs, come into the bedroom and let herself out, for a few weeks now. Bracket on the other hand has pretty much stayed in the spare bedroom ever since Pepper came home. But tonight, for the first time in three months, Hinge, Bracket and Pepper are all asleep in the sitting room with Furry Mama and Calum. Happy day........
