Clever Bird Thoughts.
After yesterday's dive on the gravel, Baggy had an extremely uncomfortable night. This morning she was incredibly stiff and aching, particularly in her right arm and chest. But it was only a fall.
"Baggy isn't old. She's middle-aged. After all she's only fifty seven. How is that middle-aged? Well Clever Bird, it isn't is it? Baggy is not going to live to be one hundred and fourteen is she? So what is she then? Face facts. She is old. But she doesn't think she's old. So that's okay then - she's a young fifty seven. With an old body".
Who cares anyway? There is nothing anyone can do about getting old, except be grateful that you have the chance to experience it. Clever Bird never has been too sure why people (especially female people) do everything they can to "stay young-looking". But each to their own. Baggy is just very grateful to be alive and well and approaching her fifty-eighth birthday.
Minty Mutt doesn't seem to know that he's old. Neither does Wesley. They just get on and do what they can, while enjoying their lives. Clever Bird thinks that this is a very good philosophy. Clever Bird is fairly sure that he doesn't know that he's poorly either. His recent "puppy" state of mind is probably quite pleasant for him. He just wants to play. If he can't play with his friends, then he's happy with his toys.
Clever Bird realised today that he must have smelt his two best friends in the distance, as Furry Mama literally got hauled a few hundred metres down the track. As he yanked her through a ditch, he actually managed to pull the lead out of Baggy's hand and disappear round the corner. Fortunately, Clever Bird was right, it was his two favourite dachshund puppies. He had a lovely twenty minutes chasing around with them - hobbling like an old man, but still, he thought he was charging, and in his own way he was. Living life to the full. Furry Mama just has to do her best to stop him being scared.
Baggy is therefore going to do the same. After all, what are a few aches and pains in the scheme of things baggees? Our bodies letting us know that we've lived a long and active life - that's all.
Clever Bird does however think that there is a need for a new label: kids, teenagers, youth, youngsters, middle-aged, elderly, old. What about, "still whipper-snappers at heart"? Baggy and Wesley and Calum and Baggy's sister and Minty Mutt and lots of Baggy's friends all fall into this category after all................
