Big yourself up!

Note to readers (my lovely bloggees): For the avoidance of any doubt - every character in this blog is me!!! No Baggy was harmed in its writing.

Clever Bird has decided that Monday February 20th should be "Big yourself up day". She's not sure whether it's a British thing, or a human thing, but people are not very good at singing their own praises. Baggy is particularly rubbish at it. She's very good at beating herself up. She's always used self-deprecating humour to hide how she's really feeling. And false modesty to make a point: "This may be a daft idea, but I was thinking..........", knowing full well that it was a brilliant (if slightly off the wall) idea!
The response she always got, "No, that's not daft......"
But guess what bloggees, in a male dominated world, if Baggy as the younger female executive, had said. "This is what we should be doing........", she would have been ignored. So needs must. But it becomes a bad habit.

Using self-deprecation makes people laugh, but it can make you feel worse, even subconsciously. This too becomes a bad habit. But singing your own praises: is bragging, arrogance, conceit, boasting, big-headedness, superiority, just not good, at least that's how Baggy was brought up. "You can always do better". "You should always do better". And you definitely shouldn't talk about it. Well, no! That is rubbish. Clever Bird agrees that you should always try your best, but if you've achieved something good, why not talk about it? Reinforce the good feeling that it gives you.

So bloggees let's have a "Big yourself up day". Baggy will start with her gang!

Furry Mama has given Derek the dove a chance of life. He is now eating grain and his tail feathers are beginning to fill out. She and Calum have also bought and filled enough different bird feeders to feed the entire bird population of the village.

The Domestic Goddess has really progressed with the soon-to-be-a-holiday cottage. Another five hours of painting today and the staircase is almost done. It's certainly looking a lot better.

Clever Bird has managed (finally) to resolve the issues with the house's garden, so Freda Fretter and Hormonal Hannah are feeling one hundred percent more chilled!

Gloria Gardener has already done a minor miracle of work on the terrace, but now she can plan on how to tackle all the rest.

She wasn't prepared to do it until she was sure that it was theirs.

Gloria is looking forward to the challenge!

Derek's Mum was keeping an eye on Baggy while Creative Clara took these photos.

But Baggy's biggest achievement is that she is getting on with all of this with Hormonal Hannah's depression and anxiety an ever present threat, but she is not going to let her get the better of the rest of the gang.

The gang has also been helped by the newest member, introduced by one of Baggy's loyal bloggees, Gythe, a few weeks ago, Bit-at-a-time-Betty. Betty is marvellous at making each of the gang break down the overwhelming amount of things they have to do into little bite-sized pieces.

This house. Life.

So, go on bloggees, big yourselves up and give yourself a big pat on the back. You've earned it...........
